It is a pleasure to collaborate with 陳宏宇 for my upcoming album. He is soo passionate about his work, and it shows through the story he tells...
Our collaboration started when I asked a great friend of mine and partner, Clean Hsieh, to listen to my English demos. I mentioned the idea of recording it in Taiwanese, and he immediately started to think more deeply about the songs. A few days later, he said that there are two songs of mine that would be a great fit for 陳宏宇. The lyrics finally came a few months after communicating with 陳宏宇 about the feeling and picture of the compositions. They were absolutely wonderful!! Reading them and hearing the sounds of the words moved me close to tears... The imagery definitely fits the music, making the songs and stories even more distinct... I am sure you all will enjoy it as much as I do!!

This guy... I don't know what else to say but I am proud to collaborate again for my upcoming album!
I actually met 方炯鎵 through his brother, 方泂鑌 ABin. I asked ABin to explore Taiwanese lyrics with me a while ago, but being the honest and modest artist that he is, he suggested to have 方炯鎵 try. I am soo glad he did!! Over the years, w e developed a strong vibe, trust, and musical understanding that allows the music to dictate the direction. 方炯鎵 has an innovative and fresh view on writing lyrics that greatly matches my music and story. His unique ear to find words that possess similar inflections of the original English lyrics is amazing!! (It must be because he also is a talented songwriter, so if you don't know about him, you should check him out!) I am looking forward to sharing our compositions with you all!! I am soo honored to collaborate with the wonderful 苗可麗 on my upcoming album!
In 2019, my team and I decided to record an album in Taiwanese. Of course I don't know ANY Taiwanese, but for me, singing in Mandarin or Taiwanese would be the same (I would be using "pinyin" anyways...). Since all my compositions are in English, we discovered that the Taiwanese language has more "inflections" that fits the sounds of the English language, making it "sound" more fluid. So the search for lyricists began! When I composed this piece, I imagined a laid-back Latin feel that expresses the excitement of new passion. One day, 苗可麗 messaged Vicky, and shared a painting that she drew of her and 黃大煒. Her passion for creation and abstract views of painting, drew us into her canvas. We suddenly realized that she could be the person we were waiting for to write the lyrics! When we approached 苗可麗 to write the Taiwanese lyrics, we happily discovered that she had not written lyrics before!! This was great for us because we wanted someone fresh and unsuspecting to collaborate with! A few weeks later, we received the lyrics and even a voice recording of her singing the lyrics!! 苗可麗's lyrics expressed the feeling I wanted to convey. Her voice brought another dimension to the composition, which lead me to record her as well at Barok Studios 巴洛克錄音室 with 王家棟!! I am looking forward to sharing our music with you all!! In late 2016, I was invited by VanNess Wu (吳建豪) to listen in on one of his rehearsals for his upcoming show. After a few months, while I was preparing for 黃大煒's 2017 Concert @ Legacy, I brought up the idea of having VanNess as our special guest... During the rehearsals and performance, I got to know more about his band, and discovered that his guitarist, James Kerridge, is from the Pacific Northwest.
Later that year, I was looking for a guitarist for a section during my own concert at Clapper Studio. Since James and I built up a connection during the year, I was delighted to have shared the stage with him!! While I was recording guitars for one of my songs on my upcoming album, I felt that something was missing. I didn't want to add another instrument, just another part, so I figured James Kerridge could help me out. I am soo glad I asked James, because his electric guitar tone and part really brought the different moving elements together. This may be one of the most "complete" live concerts I have been to. I am not talking about the "music", as it already speaks for itself. The band's passion and energy was wonderful as expected! I am talking about the "experience".
From the start, 五月天 totally took care of their fans. Since the venue was outdoor, they passed out ponchos, as there was a chance of rain. It felt like a reunion, where every single person was soo respectful of each other and their surroundings! During the concert, we accidentally dropped something that fell too far away to grab. An amazing fan went out of her way to help retrieve the item!! Even while waiting for the extremely clean restroom, everyone was politely waiting and even shared a causal nod to each other on the way out! This kind of "culture" is superb, and truly mirrors the culture of the band! Now onto the actual show, it seemed that it was made specifically FOR their fans. Before the show, the staff passed out "light sticks". It wasn't anything special at first, but once the show started, every light was synced to the music, beat, and the band! It was like the audience was "part" of the show!! Not to mention, the build quality was one of the best! After the show, we were lucky enough to be brought backstage to personally congratulate the band. They are soo humble, kind, and passionate of music!! Overall, I am extremely impressed and touched with the experience!! This is what all concerts SHOULD be like! Thank you 五月天!! I am a fan!!! |
